My daughter, Louisa, was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in June 2019. She was lifeflighted from Anchorage, Alaska to Kansas Ciry, Missouri for treatment. She had a bone marrow transplant, but relapsed around the 100 day mark. She then did a clinical trial in St Louis, Missouri. She relapsed again following that trial and had a second transplant using an umbilical cord in February 2021. She has now been in remission for three and half years.

I’m hiking Mt Kilimanjaro next summer with a group representing the Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation. It is a nonprofit organization in the United States that provides financial assistance to families facing childhood cancer and raises money for childhood cancer research. I am fundraising for the B+ Foundation until my climb.

I’ve always been impressed with gratitude that my daughter was able to access treatment for cancer. As terrible as that treatment was, it gave her a real shot. She had a wonderful care team and every comfort we could find for her. I know that this is not the case for every child, and I want to help. I found your organization on a Google search, looking for organizations that help children with cancer in Tanzania.
