The supporters showed up, the walking shoes went on and now: the final tally is in! Martin started walking in October with a view to raising €1,000 and reaching 1,000,000 steps by the end of 2020. In his words:
‘My name is Martin and I am in my 70th year! A successful total hip replacement has brought a new life and enabled the launch of a new company. The company helps patients to be treated in countries other than their own. (,Trasna) In Europe this includes financial assistance from their home country. COVID-19 has led to most patients not being able to travel. Of course it has also led to over 1 million deaths by the end of September. In Tanzania, Ireland’s Dr. Trish Scanlan has brought much relief to children suffering from cancer.
Being limited in what we can do for patients in Europe, the thought occurred that help to Dr.Trish and her wonderful patients in Tanzania would be a practical thing to do. COVID-9 has limited much of the help and finance on which she relies. So from the 1st October 2020 my target was to take one million steps before the end of 2020, one for each person that died from COVID-19.’
Martin’s dedication and the outpouring of support from the TLM’s community, friends and family dwarfed his initial targets with donations and support continuing to come in right up until the deadline a few hours ago!
In total, Martin raised €8,155 and ours as well as the spirits of those he met along the way walking 2,043,206 steps. Thank you to each and every one of the 105 fantastic supporters and everyone who offered their encouraging words and support along the way. Martin will continue going for his big daily walks and wants to thank everyone who donated, waved, emailed, shared the message and got in touch!
Thank you Martin – You Are TLM!!!
